Lumbermen of Texas honor guest en route to Houston convention

C. R. Burrow president of the Lumbermen's Association of Texas will visit Comanche on the way to the 56th annual convention at the Rice Hotel Houston April 6 7 8. He and Mrs Burrow will be hosted by Postmaster J R Eanes Sam Todd Wm C Chilton Mrs J B Chilton Miss Camille Fleming and others with events including a April 3 gathering at Mr Chilton's home and a testimonial dinner and bail with wife at the Rice Hotel Tuesday night plus a ladies luncheon and style show Tuesday afternoon where Mrs Burrow is to be guest of honor.

Postal receipts rise five percent in Comanche

Postmaster J. R. Eanes says Comanche postal receipts for the first quarter of 1942 totaled 4795.76 dollars, up from 4489.27 dollars in the same period of 1941. The gain reflects a five percent increase year over year.

Notice to Texas candidates on filing affidavits for ballots

All candidates for public office in Texas must file an affidavit with the Secretary of State under House Bill No. 222 Acts Regular Session 47th Legislature. The Comanche County Clerk offers the forms and urges early filing to place a name on the ballot.

C W Cash Dies While Visiting San Diego

C W Cash 59 former Comanche resident and Virgil Cash's brother died in San Diego California while visiting his sons. He was a rancher and horse dealer who had left Comanche about 15 years ago and had lived in Pampa. He is survived by his widow three sons and a daughter.

Dr. W. B. Center, physician and surgeon formerly of Palacios, opens an office in Comanche over the Comanche National Bank in the “se quarters” vacated. He holds a medical degree from the University of Arkansas. Dr. Center and his wife reside at Miss Dudley Hicks residence.

Jersey Sale At Dublin April 11

One of the biggest Jersey cattle dispersal sales in this Texas section is set for Friday April 10 at 1 P.M. at Dublin. T E Hughes will sell his 70 plus registered high producing Jerseys from his farm one mile east of Dublin on Highway 67. Richard R Burton Died at Brownwood Hospital

Richard Rogers Burton died March 20 after a brief illness at a Brownwood hospital. Funeral services were held at Comanche Funeral Home with Rev. A. B. English officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery. He was born July 26, 1940 in Comanche and survived by his parents, an elder brother Dan, paternal grandparents Neely Burton, and maternal grandparents Rogers of Morgan.

County Tax Assessor P A Pettit reports 3597 motor vehicles registered by April 1 with 2766 autos, 232 commercial, 598 farm vehicles. Penalty applies for highway use since April 1 under state law. Pettit thanks the public for cooperating to secure a Certificate of Title before registration.

Comanche County residents accelerate scrap drives to aid war production as the War Production Board urges swift shipment of iron steel and bones to defense factories. Sol Hoffman, the official scrap dealer for the district, reports two more cars of iron and one car of bones added to the tally. Donald M. Captain K. L. Ory Report for Army Duty in April

Dr. K. L. Ory of Comanche to report for active duty as a Captain on Wednesday April 8 at Fort Sam Houston. He served thirteen months in World War I and will leave his family in Comanche. He trained at the University of Texas and State Medical College Galveston before leading Texon Hospital and practicing in Comanche since 1933.

Comanche School Election Saturday

The Comanche Independent School District will elect two trustees this Saturday to replace Roy Brannan and Robert Eaton whose terms expire. The ballot will list only these two incumbents. The district plans no major changes to faculty or administration amid ongoing stable operations. An athletic coach will replace Glenn Frazier after resignation, with Assistant Coach John Dyer expected to become head coach, though Dyer faces a pending draft board call and an incomplete physical.

Three Aldermen to Be Elected Here Tuesday

Three aldermen will be chosen here in the City Election next Tuesday. Those whose terms are expiring are Walter Barret, C. W. Williams and Aaron Massingill. All are candidates for re election without opposition. Brightman and Joe Tupin are hold overs. The City Government is moving along under Mayor W C House, the City Council, Secretary Hardie Jones and other officers and no opposition is expected at the election Tuesday.
