Record enrolment soars as schools open with new classes
About 630 students registered for the first semester across the high school junior high and grammar school. High school enrollment reached 240, junior high 120, and grammar 270. Thomas I. Oakshott aged 22 is linked with State Senator W Lon Johnson in a Rickey building law practice after passing the state bar in May. A Colville High School graduate of 1915 he studied at the University of Montana and worked in the Washington Public Service Commission and Northwest Fruit Exchange. His parents, Mr and Mrs G B Oakshott, lived in Colville and Aladdin for six years.

Senator Miles Poindexter Speaks At Colville Luncheon
Senator Miles Poindexter spoke at a Wednesday noon luncheon in Hotel Colville attended by about 50 Colville and Chewelah residents. He urged that tariff reform could curb unemployment and hoped new tax laws would revive business activity. He said intelligence, hard work and thrift drive growth and noted farmers should organize for better marketing. Poindexter traveled with Stodard King, editor of the Spokesman-Review and author of The Long Long Trail.

Colville Nine Split Trail Series In Fast Electric Games
Colville took the Sunday game 6 to 4 after timely hitting but lost Labor Day 4 to 1 in a pair of fast hard fought contests at Trail. Don McKenzie and Charlie Scanlon dueled through six innings in game one before Trail broke loose for three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to knot the score. Colville then added runs in the eighth and ninth. Monday’s pitchers’ duel saw Hydorn outshine Patton despite Trail getting a run in the fourth and Colville tallying three in the seventh and two in the eighth to finish 4 to 1.
