Residents of Pleasant Valley form a Stevens County Taxpayers League to push tax cuts. After two mass meetings at the Quillisascut grange, organizers plan a Colville gathering August 11 and 12 to coordinate countywide action and endorse fiscally economical candidates. About 100 people attended the July 19 meeting.

The funeral of Mrs. Jessie B. Habern who died at her Colville home July 15 was held at McCord parlors. Pioneers of Stevens County served as pallbearers. Rev J M Huggins led the service. She moved to Colville 37 years ago as Miss Harvey and taught school before marrying Frank Habein.

City Fire Bell Found a Home in Bandstand Park
With the old city hall and fire station torn down the three quarter ton fire bell found a new site in Bandstand Park northeast of the old building. Arrangements to use the Free Methodist bell in case of fire were not needed. Tampering or ringing the bell outside of a fire will be prosecuted.
Salvation Army Drive Under Way in Stevens County
The Spokane Salvation Army drives in Stevens County begin with local chairs in Chewelah, Kettle Falls, Northport, Valley, Springdale, Hunters, Daisy, Clayton, Leon Lake, Addy, Colville and more. Colville aims for 800 dollars with gifts from 5 to 25 dollars.
