Colville Debaters Win First Time in Debate Series

The Colville high school debate team defeated Lewis and Clark of Spokane 2 to 1 at the M. E. church on December 16. Colville, coached by Miss Marjorie Heaton, opposed the sales tax as part of the U S taxing system with Howard Casey Marcel Bunge and Enos Rice delivering the negative. Spokane, led by coach Prof. R J Fry, argued the affirmative with Chester Arthur Howard Porterfield and Arnold Scott. Judges were Rev A A Doyle Atty A I Kulzer and Supt Cornell Vander Meer. The Spokane team arrived late and endured carsickness. Colville showed pep but benefited from Spokane failing to fully prove claims. The district league also features Yakima Walla Walla Wenatchee and Colville. Yakima defeated Walla Walla the same night. Colville will host or travel to Yakima Wenatchee and Spokane in upcoming debates with dates Feb 3 Feb 23 March 3 March 10.

Tuberculosis Nurse Reports on Her Work

The Stevens county tuberculosis nurse Miss W G Glokner reports nearly ten months of work with 500 visits to tuberculosis patients and 400 related calls. She also conducted 95 health talks, weighed and examined 1600 school children, and notified parents of defects. With 38 active cases and four patients at Edgecliff, six cases were discharged. Her county duties end December 31 due to a budget lapse.

Colville Chamber of Commerce year in review 1921

The Colville Chamber of Commerce reports a very successful year 1921 with the State Grange event and the Livestock Show and Yep-Kanum praised as among the best. Funds funded improvements on the fair grounds and a new booklet on Colville valley resources is planned for early 1922. Key officers and board members are listed, with Dale Jones as president and John T. Raftis reelected secretary for 1922. The annual banquet is planned for January 10 to review 1921 and map 1922 plans. Budget supporters urged to renew before year end to sustain growth.

Green Stockings at Colville theater Feb 6 by American Legion

A three act comedy drama Green Stockings by A B W Mason will be staged at the Colville theater February 6 by the American Legion. Directed by Mrs J Wernli formerly of the high school English department. Cast includes Ruth Sturman Jessie Rice Mary Mantz Bernice Schwerdfield Esther Edlund Joe Rogers L Wernl C N Hanson Albert Conner J P McDonald Earl Droz. The play has been successfully presented at Whitman Washington State College and University of Washington.
