The Tas Towes weekly paper issued every Tuesday morning on the West side of Broad street near Winter’s Exchange. Terms listed: two dollars per year in advance, arrears may keep paper from continuing unless opted by proprietors. Advertisements charged at one dollar per square for the first insertion and fifty cents for each continuation.
On Tuesday September 17 1850 the ship New Boston commanded by Capt Lee reached the wharf. It had traveled from Pittsburg with stops in New Orleans Mobile Pensacola and Apalachicola.
Telegraphic dispatch from Cuanteston notes the Canada arrives Halifax from Liverpool on Sept 7. Cotton prices have declined since the last steamer's arrival with weekly sales totaling 30,800. New York reports foreign news had no effect on cotton market. the Senate passed the District of Columbia slave trade abolition bill by 32 to 19.
A rousing Muscogee County gathering formed a Southern Rights Association to oppose Northern abolition and federal overreach. Speakers praised South Carolina, vowed resistance decided by the People, and urged swift signatures for a county-wide constitution. A Crawford dinner in Augusta criticized his California policy and Republican alignment.

A large meeting in Columbus forms the Muscogee Southern Rights Association with Judge G E Thomas as chair and Col Henry L Benning proposing a five member committee to draft a Constitution. The body adopts a detailed charter asserting loyalty to the South, weekly meetings, and power to appoint delegates to other Southern gatherings.
