Columbus Reservist Receives Ak-Sar-Ben Award of Merit
Specialist Linda M Wiehn of the 312th Military Police Detachment in Columbus received the Ak-Sar-Ben Award of Merit at a ceremony in Omaha for outstanding service as a citizen soldier. She served three years on active duty, then joined the Army Reserve as a senior administrative specialist. Her nomination cited her exemplary performance since joining in November 1974, with praise from a unit spokesman. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry R Wiehn of Columbus.

Special protection arranged for Ford trip
The Secret Service activated security for President Ford's two city tour with Chicago planning to test portable weapon detectors near the presidential hotel. A police spokesman said the devices would be dialed to ignore small items while detecting heavy weapons, using detectors from O'Hare on an experimental basis. In World War I Tarnoy residents faced disloyalty accusations before a parish priest published a list of uniformed locals. A World War II bombing scare on August 15 1943 involved 10-pound practice bombs. one home was struck but only minor injuries occurred. Tarnov hosts deep Polish settlement traced to 1673 with founders Jaworski Torezon Chochow Paprocki Sliva Barnas, and the name changed from Burrows to Tarnow in 1890.
