Lawyers ask reduced sentences for Haldeman and Mitchell

Attorneys for Watergate figure John Mitchell and Richard Nixon aide H R Haldeman ask Judge Sirica to cut their prison time. Banking service award to Peck 3.0

Peck chairman of the board of First National Bank Columbus received the first Service to Banking award from the East Central Nebraska Chapter of the Bankers' Administration Institute at the chapter monthly meeting in Columbus. Overpass Collapse Injures Six Children in Lansing

In Lansing a 15 foot high pedestrian overpass built to channel kids away from traffic was struck by a crane and collapsed, injuring at least six boys on their way to school. The injured range from kindergarten to sixth grade and were hospitalized with broken bones and other injuries. eyewitnesses say one child may have been blinded.

Local Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

Scotus Central Catholic student Floyd Kosch among area semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Kosch tested at St. Joseph Franciscan Seminary in Oakbrook Illinois before transferring to Beirth for spring. Florida court refuses stay of execution

The Florida Supreme Court declined to halt the scheduled execution of convicted murderer John Spenkelink.
