Lakeview board approves tractor sale and fall play cut

Lakeview High School Board accepted the sealed bid for a district tractor at $800 Monday night. The board also approved selling activities calendars to fund a language trip to Europe, and discussed lunch changes and a future policy on Sunday practices.

Columbus City Schools Board of Education approved Donna Overturf for the title and duties of administrative assistant to the superintendent with no command duties. The board added a clause to allow eliminating the position if needs change while negotiations remain at impasse.

Rezoning Hearing Could Be Delayed to October 6

Columbus City Council may postpone the rezoning hearing on a 4.5 acre R1 to R2 request by Dr. M. G. Watchhorn across from Gibson's to October 6 at the urging of attorney Mark Sipple. The planning commission has recommended approval for Becher-Curry's 44 unit housing plan north of First National Bank Drive In at 23rd Street and 18th Avenue. The council also considers a two hour downtown parking expansion and Mayor Gerber may address his veto on pay raises.

13 year old enrolls in Polish class at Platte College

Sheila Stopak, 13, registered for a beginning Polish class in the Community Education Program at Platte College, possibly the youngest student in the program. State age rules may bar credit. registration was by telephone, and Miss Stopak is an eighth grader at Scotus Junior High. She plans more Polish study and related activities.
