Allied Mills Dedication Set for New Feed Mill East of Columbus

Allied Mills will dedicate its new feed mill east of Columbus on Highway 30 with a Wednesday morning ceremony at 11 30 a m. Co hosts David Barker and Richard Lincain outline plant tours prior to the event. The plant capacity is 60 000 tons yearly, with about 99 percent sold in eastern Nebraska through a dealer network. Feeds target cattle hogs and poultry, and Wayne Health Aids products are also sold. The facility employs 29 plus sales staff.

Omaha Woman Hurt In Mishap Near Columbus

State Patrol reported a one vehicle personal injury crash about 12 39 a m north of Columbus on Highway 1. Barbara Mapes of Omaha was taken to Behlen Community Hospital for observation after her car struck the Loup Power Canal bridge railing and flipped. The car slid about 228 feet and the cause may have been a tire problem.

Earthquake Devastates Lice Turkey Killing Thousands

Rescue workers battled heat and aftershocks as the Aller quake in eastern Turkey killed about 2,400 and left 4 villages cut off. Walleye stocking boosts Lake North and Loup canal

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission stocked 9 000 walleye averaging five to six inches in Lake North and the Loup canal to improve future fishing. District I fisheries supervisor Lee Rupp notes this is the first such large stocking in northeast Nebraska and expects two years to reach keeper size. Survival depends on conditions, with past surveys showing low early survival but large survivors. Tagwerker among trio of inmates who escaped Lincoln jail

Bruce V. Tagwerker, 19, of Columbus, and two other inmates, Richard Huddleston, 19, and Calvin Clouse, 21, fled the Nebraska Penal and Correctional Complex Sunday night by climbing a fence and remained at large Monday morning. Tagwerker was sentenced July 3 in Platte County District Court to 38 years after pleading guilty to second degree arson and robbery. prosecutors dropped nine counts.
