Fairfax police caught a 17 year old boy who threw a pie at Noy Hagers known as the King of the Cowboys during a shopping center appearance. Hagers recovered quickly and joked about confronting the attacker as officers detained the youth.
The 58th Schuyler Labor Day festival, sponsored by McLeod Post No. 47, features a Kiddie Parade at 1 p.m. with three prize divisions and prizes for all entrants, a main parade at 1:30 p.m. with floats and bands from Schuyler and nine surrounding towns, and an Admirals Drum and Bugle Corps performance. A Hobby Show in downtown windows, a Merriam carnival, and an evening concert at Main Street are also planned along with museum hours over the long weekend.
Canadian researchers report that foods in Western-style diets may raise cancer risk by increasing mutagens in feces. A high fiber, low fat diet with vitamin C reduced these compounds and lowered mutagen levels, with bran and lower fat intake showing the strongest effects. Subjects were healthy non smoking males aged 25 to 40 on about 2200 calories daily.
A Gatlinburg businessman, Douglas Heinsohn, began distributing Laetrile to eight cancer patients after federal approval. Shipments were mailed Wednesday, with affidavits from patients and doctors supporting need. The FDA disputes cancer benefits, warning potential harm from abandoning standard treatments.
In Omaha authorities arrested 22 year old Patricia Edwards on suspicion of murder after the stabbing death of 57 year old Donald C. Hudson in the Streamline Hotel lobby. Hudson died at the scene from chest and back wounds. Edwards turned herself in and faces formal charges.

The poultry sector faces a 60 day data deadline and possible bans if nitrosamines form.
