Cache of dynamite with burned fuse found at union leader home

Police said a cache of 42 sticks of dynamite with a burned fuse was found beneath a basement window at the Omaha home of Charles McNeil, business manager for the Steamfitters Union. Investigators believe amateurs were involved as no blasting cap was found and the dynamite was in a dangerous state. If detonated it could have destroyed part of a southwest Omaha residential area. A neighbor had seen a package since December but ignored it. Mrs. McNeil said someone wanted to retire her husband, and the incident prompted authorities to remove earth around the site due to seepage from the dynamite.
