Adair Delays Firefighting Effort at Elk Hills
Oil fire expert Red Adair postponed the blasting attempt to extinguish the Elk Hills Naval Oil Reserve blaze after equipment problems delayed preparations. The explosion killed three workers who were suspended above the well as flames shot hundreds of feet into the air. An Elk Hills spokeswoman said conditions were favorable for mid day action and that the attempt was not expected to run into today.
