Ford signs broad public works and science funding measures
President Ford signed into law a massive Public Works and Economic Development Act package totaling about 4.7 billion dollars for 1977 to 1979. The measure reestablishes Job Opportunities, adds a 7 percent unemployment trigger, creates a revolving loan fund, and supports an interest subsidy for business loans. It also extends fisheries research, designates river portions for Wild and Scenic status, funds National Science Foundation programs, and enhances data collection on foreign investment.
