Ford lifts grain embargo as U S crops set records

The Agriculture Department projects record 1975 corn and wheat crops based on Oct 1 conditions, with corn at 3.737 billion bushels and wheat at 2.138 billion. Ford praises the forecast, lifting the embargo on Poland and pursuing a potential long term Soviet deal to ease food prices and restore trade.

Sunday events include a church service at 0:30 AM and a Discover Columbus Days horse show at Agriculture Park. Turtles hasten to town for Columbus Days race

A fresh shipment of domestic and imported turtles is available at Gene's Minnow Mart ahead of Sunday's Columbus Days turtle races. The event starts at 1 p.m. on ith Street and ith Avenue, with a $2 entry fee. Registration runs 9 a.m. to noon.

Nebraska corn tops forecast for 1975 yields

UPI reports Nebraska expects a 1975 corn crop of over 920 million bushels with irrigated yield around 120 bushels per acre and a record irrigated shipment of about 77.5 million bushels. Dryland corn, sorghum and soybean outputs are also projected, with sorghum down from 1973 but up from last year, and sugar beets on track for a record. Acreages for harvest rise in irrigated areas and dryland corn acreage is expected to reach about 2.7 million acres.
