VEW district holds fall meeting in Columbus

District 15 of the YF Auxiliary met at the Legion in Columbus for its fall meeting. Attendees from this area included Mines Marvin Mohler district treasurer Dan Hook district secretary Elmer Vanows district musician Bob Comte guard Bob Kreizinger and Tdistan Karash trustees Emil Bohuslavsky and Lawrence Zegiers. Mrs Zegiers led the business session with State President Myra Wotlbrecht as guest Emil Benusla of David City district commander led the post meeting and an evening banquet capped the day.

Body returned for funeral after road death

NORTH PLATTE UPI The body of Edward M. Wilson 74 has been returned for funeral services. He died Sunday night when struck by a hit and run driver near Maffrase Calo. He had been walking along Highway 50. Wilson is survived by two sons both of North Platte.

Charcoal rot detected in limited Nebraska soybean fields

University of Nebraska extension plant pathologist Dr. David Wysong reports charcoal rot confined to five fields in York and Seward Counties with one near the York-Seward line. The disease injures roots and stems, causes yellowing and defoliation, and may lower yields in droughty, hot conditions.

Leigh Airman Receives Commission and Plans Pilot Training

Second lieutenant William Ehlers and Mrs. Ehlers visited Leigh on Friday after his graduation from Olivers Training School at Lackland AFB Texas where he earned his commission. The couple will stay two weeks in Leigh before he reports to Reese AFB in Lubbock Texas for pilot training with Mrs. Ehlers accompanying him.

Pfeifer Named Rotary Student of the Week at Platte College

Platte College sophomore Rolly Pfeifer, Lindsay High School alumnus, is selected as Rotary Student of the Week. Pfeifer majors in business administration and plans to transfer to NU after studies. He serves as president of the Slurum Senate and participated in athletics last year.
