OMAHA Neb AP USDA weekly-livestock quotations show hogs up 1.25 to 4.00 with gains strongest in hogs over 260 pounds. Cattle and calves mixed with steers up to 30, heifers up to 25, cows 1 to 2 lower. Slaughter lambs and ewes mostly higher with chosen lambs 105 to 110 pounds bringing 42.00 to 42.50. CE Chicago futures trading noted on Friday.
Washington reports that starting Feb 1 doctors and hospitals must certify within two days of admission that Medicare and Medicaid patients truly need care. The new utilization review aims to curb unnecessary hospitalizations and could save up to 42.5 million by next June, with potential 60 million in Medicare savings in fiscal 1976.
