Cattle and calves show declines for steers and heifers, cows firm to higher with prime loads, and lambs near steady with shorn slaughter lambs higher. Estimated Tuesday receipts forecast for cattle and calves, hogs, and sheep.

The SEC has filed suits, but Staley says the group has met the challenge, aided by a $4 million September fundraiser.
In Lincoln Nebraska two children Joseph Edward Rockenbach ten and James David Rockenbach nine died in a house fire around midnight. Their mother Darlene Rockenbach tried to heat water on a camp stove after propane ran out and spilled fuel on a flag before lighting the stove igniting the fuel. A daughter Debbie alerted firefighters after they failed to smother the blaze with a blanket. James David was found upstairs with extensive burns and Joseph Edward at the bottom of a stairway from the kitchen area.
AP reporting shows 15 Rockefeller family members sit as directors across 40 corporations with assets totaling $70 billion. The study, by Damhoff and Schwartz, notes interlocking boards with nine major U.S. firms totaling $640 billion, and suggests Congress question Nelson A. Rockefeller’s vice presidential nomination.
SAN JUAN PR AP Gov Rafael Hernandez Colon says Marxist advocates of Puerto Rican independence carried out six bombings that caused minor property damage and injured a worker during cleanup. Explosions struck the ITT building offices and sites in and around Ponce including an army reserve building a chemical plant and an oil refinery.
Wayne Nebraska AP Leland Herman owner of Hervale Farms in Wayne was elected chairman of the American Palled Hereford Association board of directors at the Louisville meeting He succeeds George Palmer of Charlottesville VA Herman has been vice chairman of the 12 man board He began Polled Hereford breeding in the 1940s after winning grand championships at Ak-Sar-Ben He runs about 200 cows on a 420 acre farm and is a past president of the Nebraska Hereford Association.
