Lincoln Neb AP Nebraskans will attend a public hearing November 29 to express views on a proposed Pioneer Monument spanning Interstate 80 near the Greer Wood interchange. State Economic Development Director Stan Matzke, chairman of the governor's advisory committee, said the panel will also consider the monument’s appropriateness as a state symbol, use of public right of way, and air rights.

Deer kills dip below 1971 mark in rifle season
DAVID CITY The deer killed during the rifle season fell short of the 1971 mark. Deputy Sheriff Leonard Shipley said by the noon deadline Monday 60 deer were tagged. Sixty seven were tagged last year. The season officially ended Sunday but hunters had until noon Monday to tag their game at the county office.

Paroled in Two Manslaughter Cases in Nebraska
Two men previously sentenced for manslaughter were paroled Tuesday by the Nebraska State Parole Board. Albert Dewey, 30, of Lexington, and Mervyn Ludwig, 24, of Omaha, were released after corresponding prison terms. Dewey had a three to five year sentence for killing his 2 year old daughter in Custer County. Ludwig was convicted in Douglas County for the death of Donald Barata. Additional inmates received parole, with varied offenses including possession of forged instruments, unlawful possession of controlled substances, malicious destruction of property, larceny from person, and receiving stolen property.
