Schmitz and Porter Herman Schmitz Peter sburg and Gene Porter of Columbus receive major Mid-America Council honors. Schmitz earns the Silver Beaver for exceptional service to Scouting. Porter gets a Bronze Trust certificate while Porter already holds the Silver Beaver and Award of Merit. Porter serves as district commissioner. first from the district and 14th from the council to receive the trust honor. Schmitz has held multiple Scout leadership roles and notes affiliations with churches veterans groups and local clubs. Thirty-five district representatives attended the recognition dinner.
