Hefner protests news on Madison County welfare program
Nebraska State Senator Elroy Hefner of Coleridge criticized a news report about the Madison County welfare investigation. He urged Welfare Director Eldin Ehrlich to allow county level administration to determine eligibility, arguing uniform county rules are hard across 99 counties and citing local job availability as a factor. He noted Madison County officials defended fair treatment and questioned current law restricting county review of individual cases. He recalled a prior visit with Ehrlich agreeing Madison County was well-run.
