Prospects Bright for Reducing NCAA Division I Members
Chicago based report notes sponsors of a plan to cut Division I to about 150 schools. 436 representatives attended briefings, with five minor modifications adopted. If approved at the January convention, Division II and II schools could still compete in Division I championships but face eight sport requirements and point totals to maintain membership. Division I could set its own academic standards and aid limits, while Division I and I schools could overrule some actions if needed.
