Americans Freed by Savannakhet Demonstrators in Laos
Three Americans Sanford J. Stone Charles Pearcy and Daniel Ster were released by student demonstrators in Savannakhet Laos and said to remain in the city at residences awaiting talks with the coalition government on the future role of the U S AID mission and replacing Laotian officials. They were held overnight at the provincial governor's home and reported in good health. The demonstrators still controlled U S government buildings in Savannakhet.

Local man injured as tractor rolls onto him near State Yards
Waldemar Boettcher, 2021 SLh Street, was working on a tractor at the State Yards near 33rd Avenue and 12th Street when it rolled back and struck him. He suffered a fractured pelvis, was taken to Behlen Community Hospital by the Columbus Rescue Unit, and was to be moved from the ICU today. UPI reports U S helicopters evacuated a battered Marine force from Kol Tang Island as the Mayaguez and its 41 crew were freed from Cambodian captors. Casualties include at least two Americans dead and many wounded. six Air Force personnel and eight Marines missing amid a 14 hour firefight with Cambodian troops. President Ford ordered recapture after diplomatic talks failed following Cambodian refusal to return the ship.

Silver Creek woman killed in head on crash east of Clarks
A 27 year old Silver Creek woman, Anne L. Moyer, was killed when her car collided head on with a westbound soybean meal truck on U S 30 two miles east of Clarks Nebraska. The truck driver Clyde Patton, 29, Holcomb Kansas, escaped injury. The crash left the car a total loss and the truck in a ditch.
