Pathologist links carotid body abnormality to crib death
Pennsylvania State University pathologist Dr. Richard Naeye studied 56 sudden infant death syndrome victims and found 86 percent had abnormal carotid bodies, organs that regulate breathing. He notes a chronic abnormality may exist since birth and suggests carotid body defects could be a major clue in a substantial portion of cases, prompting further tests for high risk infants.

Commodore Hotel to Close After Big Losses
The Commodore Hotel in New York City will shut May 18, sparking 500 layoffs. Penn Central, owner of Realty Hotels, cited 1975 losses of 1.3 million and estimated 1976 losses at 4.6 million, with street-level shops unaffected. A February sit-in by hotel workers over wages and severance helped drive the closure. Realty will pay retroactive claims of 70,000 and severance of 430,000, with additional preference likely.
