New York AP reports a humorous restaurant tale where patrons debate the bill in a crowded lunch. The group teases the waiter about expenses, tipping, and excuses as they try to divide a large check among twelve people.
One hundred five Toast Masters registered for the District 24 convention in Columbus. District Governor Carl O Neal presided as Elmer Straube was elected governor for 1972 73 and Dan Smith will be educational lieutenant governor with Jim Dickerson as administrative lieutenant governor. Gary Shipley and Dick Hale are divisional lieutenant governors. Dick Toof spoke on gestures during the educational session, and Fred Gerber welcomed attendees at the evening banquet where Gene Roger acted as toastmaster.
The Cata Telegram lists mail and carrier rates for Columbus Nebraska and surrounding counties. It notes publication every evening except Sundays and holidays and provides subscription prices for local and statewide mail, with a change of address instruction to notify the postmaster and the paper.

In Omaha, Frank Morrison secures the Democratic nomination for Douglas County public defender, routing Gene Meazell two to one. Wilbur C. A Denver Colorado man, Harlan Carlbntlender aged 46, died in a crash near Marquette Nebraska when his car hit a school bus driven by Glen Hagemeister of Aurora. The bus sustained over 2000 dollars in damage while the auto was destroyed. The collision occurred at the junction of Nebraska Highway 4 and a spur into Marquette. Authorities report the highway fatality toll at 131.
FBI joined the manhunt for a young robber who held up the Husker Plaza Bank in Lincoln Nebraska on a Wednesday he fled with about eighteen thousand dollars. He wore two revolvers and ordered employees and a customer to the floor but did not fire. Police described him as five ten, dark complexioned with long light brown hair and said an accomplice may have waited in a car nearby.
The University of Nebraska at Omaha Faculty Senate postponed its decision on whether to discontinue funding the yearbook. Rich ard D. Brown, editor in chief of Breakaway, reported 1 000 signatures were corrected to support keeping the yearbook, amid Student Senate action to cut funding.

Ogallala Nebraska officials plan higher water releases from Lake McConaughy into the North Platte River. Outflow rose from 2300 to 2800 cubic feet per second and will be raised toward 4400 cfs to match canal capacity, gradually lowering lake levels by about two feet by late May depending on inflows and rainfall.
