Student sets himself on fire protesting war at UCSD
George Winne Jr., 23, history major and son of a retired Navy captain, set himself on fire Sunday near the rally at the University of California at San Diego and died early today at Scripps Memorial Hospital. Witnesses said he poured liquid on himself, then flames broke out as he shouted for help. He suffered severe burns and repeated prayers as classmates tried to extinguish the fire.

Augustin-Gonka offices burn in early morning fire
An early morning fire at the Augustin-Gonka feed yards damaged an office building and elevator, with losses estimated between 15 000 and 20 000 dollars. Fire officials cite an electrical fault in a scaler at the elevator as a probable cause and note grain spilled across a driveway hampering crews. Merle Hasselbalch rites on Wednesday
Funeral services for Merle Hasselbalch 61 will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McKown's Funeral Chapel and Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Lowell Jones officiating. He died at home Sunday after a two year illness. He was born January 9 1909 in Cordova to Otto and Ida Fillinger Hasselbalch and was a Columbus resident, self employed, former Columbus Volunteer Fire Department and Eagles Lodge member. Survivors include his widow two sons Don of Columbus and Jack of Ogallala four grandchildren three sisters Alma of Columbus Oma McEnerney of Columbus and Lois Spidia of Blair. Memorials may be directed to the heart fund.

Two drownings reported in Nebraska Sunday
Two Nebraskans died in separate drowning incidents on Sunday. Rod Gardine, 30, of Loomis, drowned in a sandpit near Overton after diving for a football. Rescue teams recovered his body in about two hours. Emanuel Weverka, 61, of Sargent, drowned while fishing near Sargent after apparently falling from the North Loup River bank. his body was found about two hours later.
