Nebraska appropriations bill advances with bigger general fund boost
The appropriations committee sent the floor a supplemental budget bill raising the general fund by 807,274 while rejecting cuts proposed by Gov. Exon. Some vetoed savings included 241,169 from Welfare and Institutions, and 158,570 in aid to aged and disabled. Sen. Simpson dissented in a 7-4 committee vote. A separate deficit bill for 1972-74 also moved ahead, plus a request for 867,400 for access roads and highway bond funding.

Federal judge Oliver Gasch ordered the EPA to release the full Congress approved money for water pollution programs, despite President Nixon's insistence on withholding funds. The decision cites the Water Pollution Control Act of 1972 and notes Congress appropriated up to 5 billion in 1973 and 6 billion in 1974, though regulations reduced available funds.
