President Ford, urged Americans to move beyond Vietnam, said to reaffirm U S commitments in the Pacific. He stressed steadfast ties with South Korea and Taiwan while denying policy change toward China. Ford meets New Zealand and Australian leaders and seeks aid for families affected by Vietnam.

Platte County Post Offices and Rural Mail Routes Chronicle

Platte County's mail service began in 1857 with a post office soon after. By 1860 there were 25 post offices, 24 in 1884, then a decline as roads improved. Rural routes formed in 1904, closing several offices including Woodburn. The name Woodburn likely comes from abundant river area firewood.

Skid Rowers Seek Refugee Status Designation

About 30 Skid Row vagrants in Sacramento asked President Ford to designate them as refugees. Richard Young said the group, living with no work or housing, seeks federally supported aid similar to Vietnamese refugees. They praised tent shelters used for Asian arrivals.

Evening of Pops at CHS Captures Pop, Jazz and Swing

Columbus Senior High School’s instrumental music department hosts an Evening of Pops at 7:20 pm in the school auditorium on Tuesday May 13. Cooler drier forecast follows tornadoes across Nebraska

United Press International reports a low over the Central Rockies bringing drier cooler air to Nebraska after a day of killer tornadoes and severe weather in the eastern regions. Temperatures were expected to reach the upper 70s in the east and low 80s in the west with overnight lows in the 30s to 40s.

Bombings Kill 16, Injure 106 in First Quarter 1975

Washington FBI data show sixteen killed and 106 injured in bombing incidents in the first quarter of 1975, a sharp rise from the same period in 1974. Property damage also exceeded last year’s level.

Tornadoes Hit Magnet Pierce and Nearby Areas in Nebraska

Tornadoes roared through outstate Nebraska towns damaging Magnet nearly level and Pierce on the west side. Mrs Rohde described roofs torn off and one house gone as residents sheltered in basements. A tornado also struck near Winside damaging farm buildings and a school narrowly escaped damage.
