Consumer prices rose 0.1 percent in February, the smallest monthly increase in over four years. Food costs fell sharply, the largest decline since 1986, with groceries down about 1 percent. Two Mellon daughters Catherine Leigh 7 and Constance Elizabeth 5 were kidnapped outside a Bath Beach home by three men during a custody dispute with their father Seward Prosser Mellon. Police said one abductor posed as an FBI agent and the girls were taken toward school before being found safe.
