Carter aims broad election reform package and fiscal agenda

The Carter administration plans to seek universal voter registration and federal financing for congressional races along with loosening Hatch Act restrictions. The package also anticipates private fundraising allowances, plus a consumer agency, food stamps reform, and hospital cost controls as part of a broader three month rollout.

Civil Defense Test Set for Platte County Tuesday

Platte County will take part in a statewide Civil Defense Warning System test on Tuesday March 15 led by Civil Defense Director Myrle Hadcock. Sirens will emit a three to five minute wavering attack warning signal guiding people to shelters or protected locations. Radios should stay on for emergency information as KTTT and KJSK will broadcast a special Checkerboard message when the warning is issued.

Blizzard brings millions in damage and power outages across Nebraska

The blizzard in a 20 county area halted snow removal as thawing drifts slowed cleanup. Gov Exon reported at least 3.5 million dollars in damage and six deaths while power lines were downed. CRE (Rural Electric Associations) report will determine federal aid eligibility. one missing person was found.

Platte College offers four unit business planning workshop

A Platte College program titled Planning Organizing and Operating Your Own Business runs this spring. It covers marketing financing personnel and more over four credit hours. Instructors Jack Kappeler and Lynn Higgins will lead sessions with guest speakers. Sessions are on Thursdays 8:30 to 1:30 from March 17 to June 23. Legislature adopts abortion amendment in Nebraska

In Lincoln Nebraska the legislature approved an amendment by a 25 to 1 vote allowing physicians to choose medically accepted procedures to protect a woman's health or life during abortion. It also requires doctors to take all steps to preserve a viable fetus when possible.
