Veerhusen fuels Adams past Polk in D quarterfinals

Jeffrey Veerhusen poured 12 points in the final eight minutes as Adams defeated Polk 73 60 to reach the Class D semifinals. Veerhusen top scored with 25, while David Miller 16 and Eugene Busboom 15 aided Hildreth foes. Adams meets Hildreth in Pershing Auditorium this afternoon for a spot in the final.

Ritzdorf shines as Howells routs Utica Centennial 72-50

Ken Ritzdorf scored 24 points on 10 of 13 from the floor to lead Howells past Utica Centennial 72-50 in the state Class C boys basketball tournament, sending the Bobcats to a semifinal against Fairfield Sandy Creek. Ritzdorf added nine rebounds as Jakubowski struggled with foul trouble, and Centennial saw its top scorer limited to 12. Morrison praised the outside attack and defense as Howells built a 33-19 halftime lead and maintained control through the second half at Pershing Auditorium.
