Good and bad news for tryouts in TV pilots
UPI reports mixed results for new shows and pilots. Shields and Yarnell rank eighth in Nielsen for the week ending June 19, boosting their pantomime act. The Clinkers may join CBS winter schedule if ratings stay high while NBC’s 3 Girls 3 sits at 55th of 65 shows, needing improvement.

Bigger bang for the buck by promoting point of purchase
A marketing expert in Englewood says point of purchase promotions rose from 5 billion to 25 billion dollars from 1970 to 1976, narrowing the gap with total media outlays as TV and print rates climbed. Action Marketing develops P O P displays, sweepstakes, and tie ins for big clients like Nabisco and Dow Chemical, seeking quick, measurable results though risks of diminishing returns.
