Nebraska issued permits for 2 041 new housing units in Q1 1977, slightly below the prior year's 2 055. Single family homes made up 80 percent of the total, with a 5.3 percent rise from the previous year. multiple family units fell 14.2 percent. Mobile home shipments totaled 519, up from 510, and mortgage money lent reached 194.2 million, more than 50 percent above last year’s first quarter.

Escapee Hart Charged With Camp Scott Girl Scout Slayings

33rd Avenue project bids opened today
Apparent low bids on Columbus's 33rd Avenue improvements total just over 3.4 million dollars, per a bid opening by the Nebraska Department of Roads in Lincoln. Dobson Construction of Lincoln bids 1,649,925 for viaduct work while Central Sand and Gravel of Columbus bids 1,780,252 for street widening paving and storm sewers. Construction is expected to start in a month or more.
