Spinning crafts connect family life and teaching abroad
Don Beach, a Columbus Junior High art teacher, and his wife Sharon turn spinning wheels into a family craft. They taught in Australia, helped build a Community Creative Craft Center, and now in Columbus continue wheel making, dyeing wool, and teaching spinning to local students while planning to import high quality Australian wool and expand their textile lines.

Stuart Man Elected VFW Commander at Nebraska Convention
Stuart born Wayne Andersen aged 45 from Stuart was chosen Saturday as commander of the Nebraska Veterans of Foreign Wars at the 5th annual Columbus convention, succeeding Carl Schroeder of Tekamah. Andersen, a former Marine fighter pilot and 20-year veteran, teaches school and ranches. More than 500 attended. Robert Lowe of Norfolk was named national VFW director of research and development. Delegates approved 41 resolutions on funds, health care, education, unemployment, universal training, and criticized the Nebraska Legislature for vetoing a veterans aid bill.

Cancer Clinic to educate Platte County on cancer research
