Nebraska farmers get first look at Nebar and new wheats

At UNL South Central Station farmers examined Nebar winter barley and early wheat lines. Dr John Schmidt noted Nebar yields about 71 bushels per acre on tests from 1969 to 1975 though last winter underperformed. He and Dr Virgil Johnson pursue winter durum wheat for pasta. The team seeks diverse rust resistance as overreliance on a single resistance source risks broad epidemics.
