New York Allows Early Tax Payments To Meet Payroll

New York City, facing daily financial strain, approved an eight percent discount for property taxes paid in advance, enabling collection of about 113 million dollars by July 1 to back payroll for policemen, garbage workers, clerks, and other staff. Mayor Abe Beame signed the bill at 2 34 PM with First Deputy Finance Administrator confirming bulk deposits, as the city deposits were due by 4 PM.

Norway approves F16 deal in arms contest

Norway backs the American General Dynamics F16 over the French Mirage F1 as a replacement for aging Star fighters. Denmark and Holland already favor the F16 while Belgium faces a final decision within 24 hours. Norway’s parliament approved 72 F16s in a 100 to 19 vote after a brief debate.

U S astronauts bond with Russians ahead of rendezvous

Houston UPI report says astronauts Deke Slayton Thomas Stafford and Vance Brand form friendships with Soviet spacemen as they prepare for July 15 Cape Canaveral launch. They expect to rendezvous with Alexei Leonov and Valeri Kubasov on July 17, linking ships for 44 hours at 136 miles up.

Nebraska raises state income tax to twelve percent

State Board of Equalization voted to raise the 1975 income tax rate from 10 to 12 percent retroactive to January 1 with holds at 13 percent of federal liability starting July 1. Governor Exon and officials supported the move. Treasurer Frank Marsh opposed.

Nebraska Weather Outlook and Tax Discussion

The Nebraska forecast shows thundershowers Monday and Tuesday with partly cloudy Wednesday. Highs will be in the 70s to 80s and lows in the 50s. The discussion notes the legislature’s tax approach, setting a 12 percent ceiling this year, with prior staff suggesting 10 percent. State spending totals exceed last year, and deficits were approved. General Fund balance projections drop from 60 million to about 14 million by mid-1976.
