Nebraska to be honored in Bicentennial music tribute

EPA orders NYC to halt Atlantic Ocean sewage dumping
The EPA ordered New York City and 13 other applicants to end dumping sewage sludge into the Atlantic Ocean, giving over 100 communities until 1981 to develop ashore disposal plans with up to 75 percent federal funding. The ruling targets the New York Bight, a major disposal site for 44 years.

GAO report to the Senate Commerce Committee estimates federal auto safety standards saved about 30,000 lives over eight years. 1966–68 cars cut deaths and serious injuries 15–25 percent, 1969–70 models 25–30 percent versus pre-1966 autos. Costs for 1966–74 safety equipment about 8.5 billion dollars. Additional injury reductions add confidence in the conclusion.
