School District 1 Sets Budget Hearing Monday
School District 1 plans a public budget hearing at 7 30 p m Monday July 24 in the Administration Building to discuss a tentative 1975 76 budget showing a mill levy drop and a five percent tax rise overall. The district projects a general fund need of 2 464 000 and a total spending increase about 1 934 000 with salaries rising and more funds allocated for athletics and special education.

Twelve Cantari vocalists from Platte College including four from Columbus High and two from Lakeview High were named to the 107-78 Watte College Cantari. Rains bring July total above normal in Columbus and plains
Rains totaling 3.53 inches for July boost Columbus month’s rainfall after a dry spell. A streak of showers from July 19 to late July added 2.46 inches, with several Nebraskan towns recording over an inch and localized flash flooding along tributaries of the Elkhorn. The National Weather Service noted heaviest rain between Madison and West Point, with unofficial reports up to 3.75 inches east of Madison and 4–6 inches southwest of Stanton. The outlook calls for more thundershowers, especially in the southeast, and mid to upper 0s temperatures tonight in the west.

Three Columbus youths Dee Ann Divis Dave Divis and Jon Kedshors joined seven Nebraska 4-Hers at Eppley Field to voyage to Japan under the Nebraska Japan Exchange Program now in its third year. The group sails for Japan and will return August 24 as Nebraska hosts 220 Japanese students later this month through the Lab International Exchange Foundation.
