Silver Creek watershed project gains approval
GRAND ISLAND Neb The Central Platte Natural Resources District Board approved the $3.4 million Silver Creek watershed project in Merrick County after planning and a public hearing in Central City. The plan covers about 90 000 acres and 400 forts along Silver Creek south of US 30 from Central City to Silver Creek. Board heard strong support from 75 attendees and funding would be 75 percent state and 25 percent district. Construction could begin about two years away. The board also adopted a budget of over $2.6 million, up 1 percent, with a 1 mill levy.

Change in voting boundary in Columbus wards
Platte County Election Commissioner Dorothy Kyriss reports a boundary change effective July 21 1977 under Ordinance No 2499. Voters in 20th Street to 23rd Street and 27th Avenue to 33rd Avenue now move from Fourth Ward C to Third Ward A, with no reregistration required. About 240 voters in South Ward C receive notification letters. The new polling place for Third Ward A is the Columbus Family.

Platte families host Japanese youths through exchange program
As of this morning eleven Platte County families host a Japanese youth until August 17. The youths, ages 12 to 16, join 170 Nebraska host families in a program with the Nebraska-Japan Youth Exchange, coordinated by Dr. John Orr.

A mother Chevy Beaudoin 24 and seven children aged 4 to 12 were found dead in a smouldering Prospect home in what police call the state's largest multiple homicide. A cousin died. the father Fred Beaudoin worked at Pratt and Whitney in North Haven. Autopsies planned at UConn Medical Center.

Arafat seeks pacific role amid Egypt Libya clash
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat met Anwar Sadat in Cairo and flew to Libya to press for de‑escalation after eight hours of aerial and tank combat along the Egypt Libyan border. Arab League chief Riad cut vacation to help mediate as both sides blamed each other for the Thursday firefight. Egypt said 2 Libyan warplanes were shot down and 40 tanks and 30 vehicles were destroyed with 43 captured soldiers. Libya claimed no casualties.
