Deadline set on arguments for Fort Calhoun plant debate
A Nebraska Public Power Project opposition group was told to file arguments by Wednesday after a hearing officer refused extra time. Attorneys claimed most protesters learned July 8 of OPPD’s plan to build the 1,100 megawatt plant, valued at $210 million, with construction not set until 1976. Protesters argued the delay could hinder strategy, while opponents warned of higher electric rates and no imminent power shortage if scrapped.
