Damaged corn and sorghum remain good cattle feed

Lincoln UPI reports University of Nebraska Extension livestock specialist Paul Guyer says drought damaged corn and sorghum harvested as silage in immature stages can match grass silage in energy and exceed typical silage in protein. He notes growth limits silage tonnage, nitrate risk, and that near maturity crops with little grain still feed like normal silage with management to reduce moisture and nitrate issues.

Three youths arrested for killings in Chicago shooting

In Chicago three suspects including a 14 year old were arrested within a day for the killing of two policemen at a Cabrini Green housing project. Sidney Bennett 18 George Knight 23 and a 14 year old boy tied to Deuces gang face murder charges while Johnnie Veal 18 is being sought. Police praised residents for tips solving the case and noted the victims belonged to the walk and talk program.

Money in Sahara Tahoe Lobby Goes Mad

Money swirled through the Sahara Tahoe Hotel lobby in Stateline Nev as a glass cash machine malfunctioned and sprayed small bills. About $600 to $1,000 vanished while staff and patrons, including Susan Alford of Modesto California, scrambled to grab notes after the blower switched on. A hotel spokesman noted the $57 Alford collected did not affect the overall toss estimate.

Neighbor’s Baby Thrown From Window Prompts Fatal Jump

In New York a 37-year-old mother of seven, Mrs. Rosemarie Grandineth, leapt from a fourth floor window after luring and dropping Theresa Pagoulatos, seriously injuring the child. Youth Drowns While Fishing in Canal

A boy named Bastian, 12 to 16 years old, drowned Sunday afternoon while fishing in the Nebraska Public Power District canal one mile south of Paxton. Divers from North Platte searched for the body after he slipped from the bank while fishing with his father and brother. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bastian of Elsie.
