Chowchilla Bus Kidnap Freedom After 27 Hours Underground

A school bus driver Ed Ray and 26 children were abducted nine miles west of Chowchilla California. They were held in a hidden 8 by 16 feet underground rock quarry tomb with mattresses water and food. After digging free they were rescued by deputies and returned home to cheering parents.

Pirates board vessel kill two Miami men

Four crew members aboard the tanker Feisty say a rowboatLoad of four men boarded while at anchor for repairs. Two crewmen were shot and killed during the encounter. The Feisty, owned by Pyramid Investments Nassau, had moved 30 miles offshore to escape the coast, and Esso Lincoln rescued the survivors. The four pirates were unnamed. the distress call reached the Coast Guard around 3 AM. The vice president line at the end references John C Calhoun.
