Nebraska economist sees higher beef prices in 1977
University of Nebraska Lincoln Extension economist predicts retail beef prices will average about 10 cents higher than 1976. Omaha 1977 choice slaughter steer prices seen at 43 to 45 dollars per hundredweight, up from 39 last year, with 41 to 43 dollars likely this quarter. He notes possible spring gains as non fed cattle supplies decline. Steer prices may strengthen in Q1 due to lower beef supply from fall slaughter.
