Expanded community education offerings in Columbus area

The Columbus City Schools and CTCC Area Community Education Centers announce a broader range of courses for ages 6 to 17. Classes will run at multiple campus and church locations with programs in business, health, arts, languages and more. Catalogs and details will be mailed in January.

Local groups push women's rights during International Year

In Columbus, the American Business Women's Association and groups across the city kept focus on education and awareness rather than organizing big events. Auxiliary officer to attend Mid-Year Conference in Columbus

Mrs. Lester P. Jean Henkens of Chadron Northwestern Division national vice president of the American Legion Auxiliary will speak at the Nebraska Auxiliary Mid-Year Conference in Columbus January 10 11. The two day program for 500 attendees features her Sunday morning address and sessions at the Holiday Inn.

Year 1975 Water and Snow Totals in Columbus Report

Moisture in Columbus in 1975 exceeded normal by about 1.5 inches with 4.74 inches year end total. November brought a rare threefold monthly surplus at 3.12 inches. Snowfall reached 37.5 inches for the year, led by January at 13.5 and November at 12.5. High was 99 August 24 at Loup Power District station, low 18 below zero February 9. February averaged coldest month, January and August defined extremes.

B D helps protect Liberty Bell with space age tech

Becton Dickinson and Company of Rutherford New Jersey provided an acoustic emission monitoring system to safeguard the 2080 pound Liberty Bell during its New Year move from Independence Hall to nearby quarters. Harold Dunegan and Adrian Pollock operated the system under Dr Karl Dorschu.

Nebraskan Peace Corps volunteer aids Natal nutrition center

Harold Lynn Beck, a 28 year old agronomist from Clarks Nebraska, works in Natal Brazil on a mini garden and chicken farmer co op project to improve nutrition and farm viability. He plans economic analyses to boost producer efficiency and possibly adjust credit policy while facilitating small scale, lasting change amid drought and low rainfall.

Nebraska youths trapped by second blizzard during outdoor encounter

United Press International reports high school students in the Nebraska Outdoor Encounter program were caught in a two foot snowstorm while back packing near Crawford. The storm trapped many, in a repeat of last year’s blizzard, as organizers noted the students’ preparedness from prior experience.
