Plans to halt Fort Calhoun nuclear plant start
Omaha environmentalist Larry Holcomb of the Quality Environment Council said an intervening group will seek action from the Atomic Energy Commission to delay operation of the Fort Calhoun plant planned to begin in June 1973 unless greater radiation safeguards are provided. He warned of a potential nuclear accident harming people animals and plant life along Lake Michigan and urged development of preventive technology. The Omaha Public Power District defended the project saying it will be safe and will not harm the local environment.
