Three men receive prison terms in Nebraska court

Judge C Thomas White sentenced Lawrence Graves of Kansas City to 1 to 5 years for obtaining money under false pretenses with $686 restitution to Equitable Savings and Loan. Paul Allen Smith of Bellwood drew 3 to 5 years for larceny of the person from a May 16 1975 robbery of Marlin Riblett. Timothy E Johnson of St Edward got one year for marijuana distribution with credit for time served. sentences run concurrently with existing terms.

Scotus Central Catholic approves 1976-77 tuition schedule

The Scotus Central Catholic board of directors approved tuition for the 1976-77 school year. Designated amounts are 290 dollars for 11th and 12th grades 270 dollars for 9th and 10th grades and 140 dollars for 7th and 8th grades. Maximum family payment is 600 dollars.

Snow expected as Platte County sees light wintry mix

As The Telegram pressed Friday night, Platte County received a light snow after earlier rain and sleet. The forecast notes Friday night low temperatures around 31 with a 49 high, and Sunday into Monday sunrises at 7:15 and 7:16 respectively.

English class attracts 13 newcomers to Columbus

Thirteen newcomers from Vietnam, Korea, Thailand and Italy enroll in a Tuesday night English class taught by Patricia Badie at St Isidore Parish on Platte College campus. The program, funded by a federal grant via Community Education, aids preschool to 60 year olds with materials from Community Services and tutoring by Badie.

Dow Jones hits three year high as NYSE volume soars

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 12.04 points to 987.80, the highest since February 1973, on record NYSE volume of 44.51 million shares. The NYSE index gained 0.35 and the average share price rose 23 cents. the week ended with a 29.44 point four day gain and 135.20 for the year.

Rescue on Carp Lake Ends Safely for Man and Dog

Schuyler Officer John Gardner and Colfax Deputy Richard Kruse conducted a unique ice rescue at Carp Lake after Ed Hajek’s dog broke through. Hajek slid on his stomach with a rope tied to a branch but fell through, pulling both him and his pet to safety as rescuers pulled them from water up to Hajek’s head. Deep gravel pit water varies up to 30 feet in places.
