Schuyler Mayor Salak awarded a plaque to Edward Houfek for 28 years as Schuyler police officer. He began in 1939 shoveling crosswalks, later serving as precinct assessor, car tester in 1949, school crossing officer, janitor, deputy sheriff, and finally police officer.

Army recruiter urges quick action for postgrad Army jobs
Local Army representative S3G Del Templeton told high school seniors to start now toward next summer’s post graduation job. He said the volunteer Army is filling popular occupational training spaces and uses a first come first served system, with the Delayed Entry Program allowing advance registrations.
