Post secondary education hearing dates set across Nebraska

Sen Jerome Warner announced a three city public hearing plan by the legislature study committee on post secondary education. Sessions are 7 10 p m at Platte College lower level resource center and earlier at Wayne State College and Northeast Community College Nor folk Sea. The hearings, held on Washingtons Birthday holiday, aim to gather input from students faculty and taxpayers to shape future institutional roles and coordination of Nebraskas higher education system.

NGIA elects Schuyler man to presidency

Del Dagley of Lincoln was elected president of the Nebraska Grain Improvement Association. He succeeds Robert Scheve of Omaha as president. New officers include Gerald RK. Ehernberger of Schuyler and Wayne Deaver of Alliance as vice presidents, Duane Hufford of Omaha as vice president, Roger Cunningham of Lincoln as treasurer, and Duane Foote of Lincoln as executive secretary. Hearst bank robbery trial may end before nightfall

Prosecutor Browning said eight more witnesses will testified including arresting officers FBI agents and gun and fingerprint experts. The jury may hear Hearst taped statements made as Tania plus bank camera footage of her taking part in the San Francisco heist. The judge denied suppressing post robbery statements and Bailey may reflag Hearst to testify about her 19 months in captivity.

Fremont fire hearing continues on gas main work

Virgil Priestly, a Nebraska Natural Gas Co. foreman, testified at an NTSB hearing that downtown gas main construction in June 1974 near the Pathfinder Hotel had no link to the January 10 explosion. He described a plastic sewer line and a six to eight foot bypass loop placed 250 feet from the leak to route the gas main beneath the sewer line and insisted the loop did not stress or loosen the coupling.

Division of two issues rejected on ballot split vote

The Unicameral narrowly rejected a plan to split two questions from LB666 for separate voter decisions. Supporters argued public schools could contract with private schools for handicapped education while maintaining a private college aid provision, but critics warned the move risked creating a dangerous precedent by fusing two issues into one.
