Nebraska truckers vote to extend three day strike

About 40 independent truckers from eastern Nebraska met in Lincoln and voted to maintain the driving strike until Wednesday. Jim Beelman of Lincoln was chosen chairman and county organizations were to be formed. State Sen. Jules Burbach and Norman Ollo attended, with proposals for fuel price pullback, a single national licensing system, raised speed limits, and uniform wage and length laws. Burbach said talks with Sen. Proud would occur, and a Washington meeting to discuss truck issues with President Nixon was planned. The group rejected a 30 day continuation under protest and claimed 80 percent strike effectiveness in Nebraska.
