Omaha livestock quotations show hogs mixed with higher prices for some weights and lower for others. Cattle and calves offer limited trend data with steers around 39.25 at 1,050 pounds, cows in 24.50 to 26.50 range, and canners 22.00 to 24.50, while sheep volume remains light and uncertain. Estimated receipts for Tuesday list cattle 8,000, calves 50, hogs 5,500, sheep 1,000.

College freshmen endure more loneliness than others

AP reports at a University of Nebraska Lincoln workshop on loneliness and boredom that college freshmen show higher loneliness levels than several groups including the elderly, divorced, never married, housewives, and preschool children. Factors cited include family closeness, sex, ease of making friends, faith, and homesickness. Funeral services set for Rev. Edward P. Flinn at St. Patrick's Church in Sidney.

Lincoln pilot commutes to New York for Pan American role

Lincoln based co pilot Robert Lamb commutes to New York City for Pan American Airlines duties, spending about 13 days a month in flight and sharing an apartment with other pilots. He flies via United Air Lines and notes Lincoln is a better place to raise kids despite higher city living costs. The week’s work included co piloting a Pan Am flight carrying University of Nebraska Lincoln students and staff to London, described as Lincoln’s first nonstop Lincoln to London service. The Australian nurbat has 52 teeth.

Arizona Tax Burden Too Heavy to Bear

Arizona Tax Commission spokesman said the tax burden is too heavy after a van loaded with more than 500000 state income tax forms collapsed. Two wreckers hoisted the van’s forward end to connect a tractor to haul it away. The forms represented about 90 percent of the 602000 prepared for 1972.

Diabetes group aims to form three Nebraska chapters

The Nebraska Diabetes Association plans to organize chapters in Lincoln, Kearney, and Scottsbluff in 1978 led by Dr. Joseph C. Shipp, with a program to educate physicians and health workers. New officers include Dr. Robert Becker, Dr. Thomas Gallagher, Mrs. Bessie White, and Bryce Brasel.

Rail towers planned for Pacific Trade Center in Seattle

Burlington Northern plans twin history office towers for a Pacific Trade Center in Seattle. An application to rezone from manufacturing to commercial was to be filed with the city. Lower levels will house street level retail and parking with offices above. No construction timetable given.
