Corky Thorton the Uncanny Fisherman of Valentine
Corky Thorton a 33 year old Valentine resident runs a bait and tackle shop with wife Darlene and is famed for a near nonstop fishing pace. From January 3 1972 he logged 16 days in the month 38 of 29 in February and the first 10 days of March. He fished Merrill and Peter Lake finding open water and a string of big catches including 7 bass and several trout with weights up to 74 pounds and 9 1 2 pounds. Darlene says Corky’s mania is harmless as he chases fish daily with a knack for the right holes and jigging.
